URA welcomes re-appointment of Pius Cheng as Executive Director

The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (Thursday) welcomes the Government’s re-appointment of Mr Pius Cheng Kai-wah as Executive Director of the URA for another term of one year effective 1 January 2018.

“Mr Cheng has profound knowledge in urban renewal and extensive experience in URA’s operations.  As one of the Executive Directors of the URA, he has made invaluable contribution to the policy formulation and execution of a number of URA’s initiatives and administering affairs of the Authority.  He also played a pivotal role in devising the implementation details for the rehabilitation initiatives, including the ‘Smart Tender’ and the one-stop Building Rehabilitation Platform, as the URA stepped up its efforts to tackle the growing problem of urban decay,” said the Chairman of the URA, Mr Victor So Hing-woh.

Mr Cheng, a qualified solicitor, first joined the URA in 2002 as General Counsel, helping to lay a solid foundation for the URA when it was set up in 2001.  He then served as the Director for Legal Services and Director for Corporate and Legal Services between 2007 and 2013.  He has been appointed as an Executive Director of the URA since January 2014.

On his re-appointment as an Executive Director, Mr Cheng said he was very honoured by the Government’s re-appointment, giving him the opportunity to continue his service in urban renewal.

Mr Cheng said: “I look forward to continue working closely with the URA Board, the URA management, all staff members, the Government, the Legislative and District Councils, and all other stakeholders, in advancing urban renewal for the benefit of our community.”
