URA’s Oak Street/Ivy Street project: Authorisation by the Secretary for Development

The Secretary for Development (SDEV) has authorised the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) to proceed with the Oak Street/Ivy Street redevelopment project in Tai Kok Tsui, which is published in the Gazette today (Friday).

Commenced earlier on 16 March, the project was implemented by way of a development project in accordance with the Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance (URAO), and had received no objection during the following two-month publication period.  On 15 August 2018, the URA had submitted, according to the URAO, the project as well as URA’s assessment on the likely effect of the project to SDEV for consideration.

The project occupies a gross site area of about 820 square metres, covering seven street numbers of buildings completed between 1963 and 1977.  To tie in with the work of the URA to rejuvenate the Tai Kok Tsui area under a holistic approach, the project will enhance the overall townscape of the area through coordinated urban design, thereby meeting the objectives of urban renewal as stipulated in the 2011 Urban Renewal Strategy.  Subject to change, the URA’s current proposal is to redevelop the site to provide about 4,990 square metres of residential floor area and some 1,000 square metres of commercial floor area.

A site plan delineating the boundary of the project together with a general description of the project is available for public inspection at:

  • the URA’s Headquarters (26/F, COSCO Tower, 183 Queen’s Road Central, Central);
  • the URA’s Urban Renewal Resource Centre (1/F, 6 Fuk Tsun Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon); and
  • Yau Tsim Mong Home Affairs Enquiry Centre (G/F, Mong Kok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street, Mong Kok Kowloon).

Such information is also available on the URA website (www.ura.org.hk).  Members of the public can also call the URA hotline at 2588 2333 for information.
