URA to hold international conference on urban renewal to celebrate 15th anniversary
The Urban Renewal Authority today (Wednesday) announced that it
will host an international conference on 10 June 2016 on the
occasion of its 15th Anniversary to bring together a
panel of leading experts from around the world to discuss and share
their knowledge and experience in urban regeneration.
Entitled "Bringing Innovations to Urban Renewal", the full-day
conference will focus on the discussion of urban development and
restoration of building structures which will be exemplified by
thought-provoking case studies of different cities with the aim to
shed light on the best way forward for the development of urban
renewal in Hong Kong. The conference will be held at Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Chairman of the Urban Renewal Authority, Mr Victor So, said: "As a
dynamic and forward looking organisation, the URA is organising
this international conference on the occasion of its
15th anniversary, to provide a platform to stimulate
knowledge and expertise exchange on urban planning and regeneration
which in turn will offer new insights and ideas in taking Hong
Kong's urban renewal to the next level."
The URA is honoured to have the presence of the Financial
Secretary, Mr John Tsang, who will be the Guest of Honour of the
conference, and Mr Liu Thai Ker, former Chief Executive Officer and
Chief Planner of Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority, as the
keynote speaker. Professor David Lung Ping-yee, a registered
architect, and Lady Edith Kotewall Professor in the Built
Environment at The University of Hong Kong will give the concluding
remarks at the conference. Other distinguished conference speakers
include:
- Mr Yuzuru Teramoto, Director of the Development Coordination Division, City Planning Bureau, Osaka City Government, Japan;
- Mr Andrey Valuy, Head of Department of Urban Development and Department of Urban Planning Policy, Government of Moscow, Russia;
- Professor Pamela Jerome, President of Architectural Preservation Studio, PC, and Adjunct Associate Professor of the Historic Preservation Program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, USA ; and
- Professor Teng Jin-guang, Ko Jan Ming Professor in Sustainable Structures and Materials, Chair Professor of Structural Engineering & Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
