Lighting Ceremony for Christmas Panda Installations of the URA’s “WINTER TRANSFORM” Festive Event

The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is hosting a large-scale event, “WINTER TRANSFORM” at the “Free Space” in Kwun Tong Town Centre starting today (6 December 2024) to celebrate the festive season with the public.  The lighting ceremony for the Christmas panda installations was held in the evening, infusing Kwun Tong with a joyful atmosphere and vibrant energy.

The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Ms Bernadette Linn, the Secretary for Development, in the company of URA Managing Director Ir Wai Chi-sing, Legislative Councillors Hon Tang Ka-piu and Hon Ngan Man-yu, District Officer (Kwun Tong) Mr Denny Ho, and Director of Asset Management at Sino Group Ms Bella Chhoa.  Together, they activated the “power device” symbolising “vitality”, with sparkling lights connecting luminous wires to weave a galaxy across the “Free Space”, signifying the infinite potential for the future growth of Kwun Tong Town Centre 2.0.

In tune with the joyous atmosphere of welcoming pandas throughout Hong Kong, the URA has placed 80 panda installations of varying sizes in the “Free Space” area, including an “industrial style” panda and an “astronaut” panda.  These installations symbolise the transformation of Kwun Tong from a traditional industrial area to a modernised commercial centre.

After Christmas, the URA will dress these panda installations in festive Chinese New Year attire, sustaining the celebratory ambience until the first quarter of next year and enhancing the vibrancy of the Kwun Tong Town Centre at all times.
