URA encourages students’ creation and community art performance for better understanding of the renewal of old districts
The prize presentation ceremony of the "Old District Discovery" Video Competition cum the Community Drama Competition organised by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) was successfully held at the Youth Square in Chai Wan on 30 March 2012.
"These two activities aim to enhance the understanding of the younger generation and the community about the renewal of old districts through film art and performing art," said a spokesperson for the URA.
With the theme of "Old District Discovery", the video competition held between October 2011 and February 2012 has received overwhelming response. Nearly 30 secondary schools participated to compete for the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up, and the awards of the Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Most Creative Video and Most Popular Video Online which was selected by open vote. Participating students used their creativity to produce high-quality short videos, exploring old districts, including the people and their livelihood, through the camera lens. The judging panel comprised representatives of the URA, the Hong Kong Film Art Association and Hong Kong Education City. The list of awardees is as follows:

The final of the Community Drama Competition was also held on the same occasion. Supported by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, the competition aimed to promote social integration and happy neighbourhood relations through performing art. Three finalist teams, comprised separately of elderly, youth and community organisations, performed their drama on stage to compete for the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up and other prizes. From 10 April to 26 April, the URA will organise an exhibition showcasing the winning entries of the "Old District Discovery" Video Competition and the Community Drama Competition on the 2/F of the Central Oasis at the former Central Market. Members of public are welcome to visit and share the creative and fruitful experience of the winning schools and organisations.
