Comic Drawing Competition on Building Rehabilitation
The importance of building rehabilitation for home safety has
been vividly portrayed in a comic drawing competition organised by
the Urban Renewal Authority (URA). The winning artists taking
part are awarded for their imagination and creativity at a
presentation ceremony this (Monday) afternoon.
Rehabilitation is one of the key components of the URA's holistic
4R strategy in urban renewal, namely, Redevelopment,
Rehabilitation, pReservation and Revitalisation. The
Authority encourages building owners to carry out rehabilitation
works through two incentive schemes, i.e. the materials incentive
scheme and the interest free loan scheme, in order to enhance the
quality and the structural safety of buildings in Hong Kong.
The schemes are well received and so far owners of over 40,000
flats of 520 buildings have joined the schemes to improve their
homes.
In holding the competition, the URA hopes to reiterate the
importance of building rehabilitation, calling on members of the
public to join hands to make Hong Kong a safe and better place to
live.
Jointly organised by the URA, Hong Kong Society of Illustrators,
Hong Kong Animation and Comic Association and Hong Kong Education
City, the competition is divided into public and secondary school
sections.
Response is overwhelmingly encouraging with over 1,000 entries
received. Winning entries of the competition are being exhibited at
the Oasis Gallery of the Central Oasis in Central for public
viewing for three weeks.
Officiating at today's ceremony were URA Board member, Mr Philip
Kan Siu-lun, and the Vice Chairman of the Central & Western
District Council, Mr Stephen Chan Chit-kwai.
