URA welcomes appointment of Eric Poon as Executive Director

The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (11 June) welcomes the Government's appointment of Mr Eric Poon as an Executive Director of the URA, effective 15 July 2020.

Mr Poon will succeed Mr Michael Ma who will retire next month. He will be responsible for formulating and implementing policies and initiatives on matters relating to planning and design, property and land, and corporate services.

“Having worked for 23 years in the former Land Development Corporation and the URA, Mr Poon has profound knowledge and experience in urban regeneration and the work of URA, in particular in project and contract management for the implementation of redevelopment projects. On behalf of the URA Board, I look forward to working closely with Mr Poon, in his new capacity as one of the Executive Directors of the URA, to further the work of urban renewal in Hong Kong,” said the Chairman of the URA, Mr Chow Chung-kong.

Mr Poon is a professional quantity surveyor. Since the establishment of the URA in 2001, Mr Poon has been involved in a number of major redevelopment and preservation projects. In 2017, he was promoted to Director, Works & Contracts.

Expressing his gratitude to the retiring Executive Director, Mr Chow said, “Mr Michael Ma joined the URA in 2006 and has played a key role over the past 14 years in strategy and project planning, contributing to the successful implementation of many renewal projects. Mr Ma has played an important role in the development of the district-based and planning-led approach in urban renewal which leads to overall improvement of many of Hong Kong’s older districts.

We thank Mr Ma for his dedicated and distinguished service at the URA and wish him a happy retirement.”
